OUR FIR – YOUR ALTERNATIVE Fir: White or silver fir, Latin abies alba, deserves its name. It is the tallest tree in our forest and can grow up to 60 m high. It can thus be called the queen of the forest.
The domestic fir (white fir) grows to be light and fine-ringed. Unlike spruce, it has no resin pockets, is very distinguished in appearance and feels pleasant. It does not yellow like spruce, but instead develops a reddish and as a result warm surface.
In recent years, it has had a triumph as a high quality solid wood interior finishing and is also outstandingly suitable for exterior or aquatic construction, since it is very stable.
Bregenzerwald is one of the best growing areas for the fir in Europe. Thanks to the quality and quantity of the white fir in our forests, this tree species plays a major role in our business, composing some 50% of the quantity.
